Working Ferrets

Ferrets were originally bred by man as the perfect rabbit catching machine. Their long flexible body and endless inquisitive nature makes them the best animal for the job.

Rabbits have become a big pest problem in this country ever since they were brought here for the meat and fur trade. To most people the appear innocent cute animals, but those who's lively hood is growing crops or keeping live stock they are not nice to have around.

Rabbits cause thousand of pounds of damage to crops and gardens each year. They are also a serious risk to horses and other live stock as it is all too easy for large animals to break limbs falling down there warrens. It is also not uncommon for rabbits to share their homes with other animals like rats which create even more damage.

When hunting for rabbits, it is the ferrets job to flush the rabbits out of the warren into pre-laid purse nets or long nets where it is quickly and humanely dispatched.
